What do you mean? Firefox does not have a default mailto handler installed (not even Thunderbird), although you can install one in the network.protocol-handler.app.mailto preference (in your case it must have been modified before). See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Default_mail_client for full information how to install it in Firefox, and also in other Linux applications (Gnome and KDE).

I started with a fresh profile and got Enigmail, even though it was not installed and I never used it before. I don't even run Gnome. Where does it come from?
