Upgrading to 3.6 rc1 results in lost bookmarks, which can not be rebooted from the memory, as the *.json files can not be read.

Attachment: Add bookmarks dialog when bookmarks are missing after upgrading to 3.6 rc2. Note that after adding the bookmark, nothing appears in the bookmarks toolbar.

I see this same behavior on Windows Server 2008 (this is not Windows Server R2).  

Also, once in this state I cannot add bookmarks.  Screenshot attached.

do you have Torbutton extension installed?
if so try disabling it.

Also please try Safe mode if the above does not change anything: http://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode

Yes, disabling Torbutton restored my bookmarks and history.

no answer from original poster, most of the bookmarks lost reports were actually due to extensions (and Torbutton specifically). btw, solving incomplete.
