We're beginning to automate support for selenium tests on AMO and could use a server that could run them. The CI server is using QA's grid server but it's not on the development VPN and I don't want to clog it up anyway. Ideally I could get a mac mini with a VM running XP so we could do safari too, but if that's a lot of work even a VM with XP would work for now. This should be restricted to mpt-vpn so developers and khan can get to it. Initially this would be for AMO development but if other webdev groups are automating their selenium tests, they'd be welcome to use it too. Thanks.
Sean, can you get a machine for this?

Can you just use XP on ESX instead of having a dedicated mac mini for this?

If you don't have a mac mini, a VM is fine. We don't even need Windows at this point and we can save the licensing/maintenance. If you want me to support it, I'd like to use ubuntu. If you want to support it, RH is ok I guess - we'll need a GUI, java, and ant installed.
We do have a mini, but I was just trying to figure out what you needed exactly. There is a known issues with Ubuntu not properly rebooting or shutting down on the mini. Releng was able to get a work around with Fed 12.
and minis aren't colo friendly :(
no worries, a VM is fine
do you care what version of ubuntu?
I assume 9.1. Is there any reason not to use the latest?
32 or 64 bit?
and how big of a drive do you need?
32bit and 12G is good. I think ubuntu is happy in 6-8G but I have no idea how big java is so I'm overestimating.
sm-selenium01.mozilla.org 10.2.76.169 32bit Ubuntu 9.10 ping me on irc and I can give you the username and password.
