Details

(Whiteboard: [platform-rel-Google] [platform-rel-Gmail])

How to reproduce:

1. Log in to Gmail using a Mac
2. Compose a new mail
3. Write some text in the body field
4. Try using Apple-Left/Right to go to first/last character on the line, it doesn't work.

Things to note:
1. It works in other browsers on the Mac
2. I'm pretty sure it used to work at one point in time with FF too, but I can't locate a version that will work (tested 3.0.x, 3.5.7, 3.6 RC)
3. It works in normal text entry fields (ie. this Bugzilla description)
More clues: It seems to only happen on Snow Leopard. Maybe because Apple removed these from the default set of shortcuts? TextMate put them back in an update, so we might have to do the same.

(Note that it still works in normal textareas)
Update: This happens more frequently now, it seems — and only with the Gmail text box, not with any other textarea.

An additional side effect is that it kills off accented characters reached by modifiers on the Mac keyboard, national characters like æøå (alt + ('|o|a) if you want to test), and typography like the em dash (alt-dash).
