Even so the preference entry states that new tabs should be opened instead of new windows, a new window is opened every time.

This is a new behaviour with FF 3.6RC1 and very enoying.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Check box indicating that tabs should be created instead of new windows
2.Click on a link that opens a page in a new window
Actual Results:
A new window with the page of the link followed is opened.

Expected Results:
Open web page in a new tab.
Please give us an URL we can use to test with. I believe that those links are javascript links?

No response to comment 1, closing as incomplete. Should the information be added this can be reopened.

Links that specify the Windows height, width, or hide part of the interface such as the the navigation bar are opened as separate windows. If you want these to open as tabs look into extensions such as tab mix plus or tab kit.

Build identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; rv:2.0b9) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/4.0b9

Issue present in the above build always opening new tab in the focused window. Cannot open link new window from current browser by using mouse middle button.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Check box indicating that windows should open.
2. Open and search for "firefox".
3. Middle click one of the results.

Actual results:
 - a new tab is created with the selected result

Expected results:
 - a new window is opened with the selected result

"Open new windows in a new tab instead" functions only when opening link from 3rd party applications (ex: OpenOffice), link being opened in either a new tab or a new window.

I just noticed this morning that when I click on links, a new window opens, instead of a new tab. I checked my Preferences setting and I have it set to open new links as new tabs so something is wrong. I checked both Firefox and Nightly and it is the same situation in both.
