I believe this entails:

1) renaming the rc 1.0 (from 1.0.0)
2) changing the nightly deb version from 1.1a1~DATETIME to 1.1~a1~DATETIME

(please correct me if I'm mistaken)

This will break rc1 or rc2 -> rc3 updates, and will break trunk_multi/ nightly updates (a 1.1a1pre is in there currently).  The workaround is uninstalling fennec+xulrunner and reinstalling.

This may or may not be a dup of a re-purposed bug 538501
I believe this portion is done, and triggered a bunch of other bugs.  I think the "new" fix nightly deb version bug is bug 542349.
