The message could not be sent using SMTP server mail.es.net for an unknown reason. Please verify that your SMTP server settings are correct and try again, or contact your network administrator. I checked the reported bug list by looking at the key word 'send' none of the problem reported already matches with my problem. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.I have seen this error mostly on Mac OS X 2.just compose a message and try to send it Actual Results: Should be asking for smtp server password. Expected Results: Send Message Error. Detailed error has been posted I believe this is something to do with Permission problem. i.e software trying to generate a temporary file in the process of sending an email. But fails. But i have no idea about changing the permission of the temporary folder that Thunderbird uses.
I had similar issue with SeaMonkey. Then i changed the Seamonkey cache folder to a known folder in a known location. The problem gone away. I don't have that option with Thunderbird.

You can find the pref you need to change by looking at the Seamonkey prefs file.
Looks like this directory is encoded and not sure if i can edit this pref in human readable format. browser.cache.disk.parent_directory", "AAAAAAGGAAIAAQxN....")

Hi, I stopped using Thunderbird and switched back to Apple Mail due to this issue. I have never retested. It has been nearly a year since my post? - Mike
