When the "send" button is clicked, it sends of the mail to outbox. I then have to go to file menu and select "send unsent messages" for the message to be sent. This was not a problem in Thunderbird 2

Did you upgrade form 2.x or is it a new install ?

Are you offline when you press the send button ?

do you have the issue while running Thunderbird in -safe-mode (http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode) ?

Yes I did upgrade from 2.x (the last update for version 2)

No, I am not offline when I press the send button.

I have not tried to run Thunderbird in safe-mode

I just tried to run in safe-mode. The system runs fine in safemode.

BTW the instruction on the website needs to be updated about running the software in safe-mode. i just right clicked and opted for safe-mode. The command does not help.

Ok so your issue is either in the theme you are using or in one extension that is not compatible with Thunderbird 3.0. try disabling extensions one by one until you figure out which one is the culprit. And then please email the extension author telling him that his extension is not compatible with TB3.
