User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.2) Gecko/20100115 Firefox/3.6 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.2) Gecko/20100115 Firefox/3.6 Youtube videos in full-screen causes complete (Firefox- and) Linux freeze. Only mouse pointer is still moving. Beside this the OS is completly frozen. STRG-ALT-Backspace does also not work. I need to switch off power and reboot. Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=smZLLDUxqtg or other youtube video 2. Click on full screen icon 3. OS hangs forever This happens with Firefox 3.5. and 3.6 on Ubuntu 8.04 32bit on a Core 2 Duo. Maybe realatet to Bug 475313 and/or Bug 371523
I don't believe firefox can cause a full linux system freeze, but do this for me. What version of flash are you running, and does this happen in a new profile. http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Managing+profiles
Version: unspecified → 3.6 Branch
flash version see below, will check with a clean new profile soon ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Shockwave Flash File: libflashplayer.so Version: Shockwave Flash 9.0 r115 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mplayerplug-in 3.55 File: mplayerplug-in.so Version: mplayerplug-in 3.55 Video Player Plug-in for QuickTime, RealPlayer and Windows Media Player streams using MPlayer JavaScript Enabled and Using GTK2 Widgets
Flash player 9 is extremely old, outdated, and insecure. So, please download and install 10.0 r42 or later, then test again.
quick test: new profile seems to work, but firefox crash on file->quit with the following details: Add-ons: {972ce4c6-7e08-4474-a285-3208198ce6fd}:3.6 BuildID: 20100115133306 CrashTime: 1264103472 EMCheckCompatibility: true FramePoisonBase: 00000000f0dea000 FramePoisonSize: 4096 InstallTime: 1264097965 ProductName: Firefox ReleaseChannel: release SecondsSinceLastCrash: 1459601 StartupTime: 1264103416 Theme: classic/1.0 Throttleable: 1 URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=smZLLDUxqtg Vendor: Mozilla Version: 3.6 This report also contains technical information about the state of the application when it crashed. --------------------------- Will update flashplayer too
That crash report is useless. We need a stacktrace from https://developer.mozilla.org/En/How_to_get_a_stacktrace_for_a_bug_report

Attached file 2nd log file
Problem: We are also intermittently experiencing the same problem. That is, Firefox and linux halts, though the mouse cursor continues to move in response to mouse movements. Notes: It should be noted that this freeze only occurs on one of the systems here. The work station using the same OS and firefox versions is not experiencing this problem. Frequency: intermittent, but every 1 or 2 hours. Method: Use firefox, otherwise the specific cause appears not to be linked to a particular action. It has been reported as associated with 'Go back one page', 'Link to a new page' and starting a video within firefox for example. Diagnosis: The intermittent nature of the problem and complete system freeze, (including the system clock) makes it difficult to obtain diagnostic information. The first of the logs which I attach in the file suggest that a segmentation fault associated with 'libflashplayer' may be the cause of the crash/freeze at 2011-03-31 14:04:27 The second log file I attach does not show an association with any problem associated with 'libflashplayer'. This crash/freeze that occurred at 2011-04-01 13:35:01 System environment. firefox version: 3.6.16-0.2.1 flash-player version: 10.2 System details: OS: linux kernel 2.6.34.7-0.7-desktop Distribution: SuSE ll.3 Graphical Interface: Gnome 2.30.0 Hardware: Memory 2.9 GB 64 bit Processors, 2 of: Pentium (R) Dual-Core CPU T4300 @ 2.1 GHZ Hard disk space: 250.7 GB File system set as: /dev/sda1 /boot ext4 97.8 MB Encrypted LVM /dev/mapper/VOL-root / ext4 71.8 GB /dev/mapper/VOL-home /home ext4 147.6GB /dev/mapper/VOL-usr /usr ext4 70.9GB
Reporter, Firefox 4.0.1 has been released, and it features significant improvements over previous releases. Can you please update to Firefox 4.0.1 or later, and retest your bug? Please also create a fresh profile ( http://support.mozilla.com/kb/Managing+profiles), update your plugins (Flash, Java, Quicktime, Reader, etc) and update your graphics driver and Operating system to the latest versions available. If you still continue to see this issue, please comment. If you do not, please close this bug as RESOLVED > WORKSFORME filter: prefirefox4uncobugs
RESOLVED: On our system (see 'david kennedy: System environment' above) just downloading the latest driver from nvidia and installing this resolved the problem. Prior to this, we were using an open source equivalent nvidia driver, which I now believe was responsible for the described problems.
