User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; da; rv:1.9.2) Gecko/20100115 Firefox/3.6 GTB6 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729) Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; da; rv:1.9.2) Gecko/20100115 Firefox/3.6 GTB6 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729) The Firefox Download Manager seems to have a bug in relating displayed downloads to temporary files and therefore might open the wrong file when user double-clicks a displayed download. Must also somehow have some security implications... Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: To demonstrate the bug we need some document type which will/can be opened in an external application. For this example I will use Microsoft Word files. Specifically two random same-named documents found using Google: URL #1: http://fredrik.hubbe.net/plugger/test.doc URL #2: http://www.denroedepen.dk/test.doc To reproduce: 1. Open URL #1 2. Depending on your configuration of file types in "Applications" settings, Firefox will ask if you want to save the file or open it in Microsoft Word. Choose to open the file in Microsoft Word and the file will open correctly. 3. Close the Word document. 4. Repeat steps 1-3 above for link #2 5. In the Download Manager, double-click the entry related to link #2, and Firefox will start up Word with the file from link #1! Apparently the Download Manager somehow doesn't know about (or somehow forgets) about the renaming with a numerical suffix, of downloaded files if there is already another file by that name...
Great description of problem!. Thank you. I have the same problem. I hope someone will fix it. This appears to be like: "Bug 539431 Download history: Firefox does not download new files from a link if an od version is in the history"
Shawn, don't we have existing bugs on this?
Yes, but I'm not finding it at first glance...

We use unique file names these days, so the steps in comment #0 don't break anymore.
