This doesn't make sense. Archived messages should be read. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Select an unread message 2. Archive it without marking it read first 3. The message will be marked as unread in the archive Actual Results: Messages are moved to the archive while still marked unread Expected Results: Archived messages should always be marked read TB is a 32-bit build. The x86_64 part refers to my version of Vista. I can provide a full config if it will help

Since this request has been here effectively unchanged for 11 years, I'm not expecting the sudden appearance of such a disruptive change to how archiving works. In case by some chance it does get looked at by someone keen on implementing it, I wanted to weigh in. This would definitely not match my expectations of an archive function.

I expect the message to be archived and nothing more. The fact that tags are stripped is already enough of a nuisance. Marking unread messages as read is not the function of archiving. As always, so long as it is easy enough to disable such a feature, it makes no difference to me if an option exists, but for my archiving purposes, it is important that I retain the original read/unread status.

suggestion: checkbox [ ] mark archived messages as read in settings will make both camps happy

workaround:

main menu > tools > message filters > new

  • apply filter when > select "archiving", deselect everything else
  • select radio button "match all messages"
  • perform these actions > mark as read
  • hit OK button

I'd still recommend adding a settings checkbox, because many users won't find this workaround.
