There needs to be a way to define a global default view for the Message List pane - ie, columns, column locations, sort order, etc - and then when these are changed for a folder, said changes simply over-ride the global settings. Reproducible: Always

Probably covered by bug 505035, though the main motivation there is to change all thread-list views at once for all folders rather than redefining the default. Either way, the issue here may be covered by a fix for that bug.
I agree with comment #1: we can close this as dupe of bug #505035.
Ok, let's do so. They are close enough and some comments over there seem to motivate a "set as template/default" option.
