Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-GB; rv:1.9.2) Gecko/20100115 Firefox/3.6 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729)
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-GB; rv:1.9.2) Gecko/20100115 Firefox/3.6 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729)

If I create any folder on the Bookmarks Toolbar, by default this appears at the end of my list of bookmarks on the toolbar. I can successfully add, edit and delete any bookmarks, as long as I leave the folder in the same position.

If, however, I move the bookmarks folder to another position on the toolbar (say, one place to the left, so that it is surrounded on both sides / one side by another bookmark or folder), I find that it is now impossible to add any further bookmarks to the folder in question.

I can successfully delete the folder, and any bookmarks inside of it, but if I edit the name of a bookmark inside the folder, the updated name is not displayed when I view the contents of the folder from the Bookmarks Toolbar. However, if I view the properties of the bookmark that I had edited, its updated name is displayed successfully.

Previously, this problem has not affected me, and has only come to light since I updated Firefox from version 3.5.7 to version 3.6. I am uncertain as to whether this affects new installations of Firefox 3.6, or just users who upgraded to 3.6 from a previous 3.x version. Hope this makes sense.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Create a folder on an existing Bookmarks Toolbar.
2. Add a bookmark to the newly-created bookmarks folder.
3. Move the folder to a different position so that it is between two other bookmarks or folders.
4. Attempt to rename the existing bookmark. The updated name should not be visible when opening the foldesr from the Bookmarks Toolbar, and should only be visible when viewing the bookmarks' properties.
5. Attempt to add a new bookmark to the folder. This should also prove to be impossible.
Actual Results:
I was unable to add to a bookmark folder that I have created and then moved to a different location on the Bookmarks Toolbar, nor was I able to rename a bookmark and see its name update when clicking on the folder on the Bookmarks Toolbar (only its initial name is shown, no matter how many times the bookmark is renamed).

Expected Results:
After moving a newly-created Bookmarks Toolbar folder, it should be possible to continue adding items to it, and it should also be the case that when a bookmark in such a folder is renamed, its updated name is displayed when viewing the contents of a folder on the Bookmarks Toolbar.

Using the Default Theme. No crash ID to provide as this does not trigger a browser crash.

I'm not sure if it's relevant as I use the standard Windows 32-bit build from the Mozilla website, but I will include the build ID from about:buildconfig as I'd rather provide it just in case it's useful:

Changed title - I've made a mistake in the description of the bug report, apologies for this, I was rushing into it a bit too quickly.

What I meant to write was that bookmarks *can* still be added to a Bookmarks Toolbar folder, after it has been moved from its original location. However, the bookmark cannot be seen from the toolbar folder it was added to - it is only visible when viewing the toolbar folder from the Bookmarks Manager.

So this is not a problem with the bookmarks not being added at all - it just appears to be an issue that changes to bookmark items, in a Bookmarks Toolbar folder, are not refreshed / updated when viewing the contents a folder from the Bookmarks Toolbar.
Summary: Cannot add bookmarks to a bookmarks folder after changing its position on the bookmarks toolbar → Cannot see bookmarks added to a bookmarks folder after changing its position on the bookmarks toolbar
Version: unspecified → 3.6 Branch
Two more things:

1) This problem affects any existing folders on my bookmarks toolbar as well. I have several existing folders, one of which is called "News" and has news websites inside it. When I renamed one link, "BBC News", to "BBC News222", this was reflected correctly.

After this, I changed the name of the link back to "BBC News", and then moved the "News" folder to a different position on the Bookmarks Toolbar. However, if I then renamed the "BBC News" link to "BBC News222" (or anything else, for that matter), this change was not reflected.

2) The bug can be overcome temporarily by restarting the browser, which I presume causes the Bookmarks Toolbar to update bookmarks to their correct names. However, the bug will return if a bookmarks toolbar folder is moved to a different position.
+1

Any updates on this? I see that this bug report has been untouched since Jan, 2010.

I have the same problem. One additional information is that the bookmark shows up when viewed in the Bookmarks "menu" however: Bookmarks > Bookmarks Toolbar > [Folder in Question]

Environment:
Windows 7 - 64 Bit

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2.3) Gecko/20100401 Firefox/3.6.3
I had the same problem:

I noticed that even if the newly added URLs are not seen, If you copy the folder and paste it, it reappears on the new folder. So as a workaround, I do a copy and paste, and delete the old folder.
