User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2) Gecko/20100115 Firefox/3.6 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729) Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US; rv:184.108.40.206) Gecko/20100111 Thunderbird/3.0.1 I receive several emails from various forums which all have the same subject, the name of the thread I am interested in. However, as they do not start with 'Re:' selecting 'View->Sort By->Threaded' does nothing. Would it be possible to have an option where it is possible to 'thread' messages that simply have the same name (sorted by date?) Thank you. Reproducible: Always
Config Editor is your friend ;) -- try setting mail.thread_without_re to true, and/or mail.strict_threading to false (see http://kb.mozillazine.org/Mail_and_news_settings for more information). Resolving WFM tentatively; if these prefs don't work for you, please reopen and note what went wrong. Hope this helps! : http://kb.mozillazine.org/Modify_Thunderbird_settings

Tried setting mail.thread_without_re to true. No change. Closed Thunderbird in case it needed to close to take effect. Reopened still not threaded. Set mail.strict.threading to false (in addition to the above) No change. Closed, reopened, still no change. Example message subject: Message posted: blah blah blah all from the same email address, at various times obviously.
I assume you set View->Sort By->Threaded to True each time? (Most preferences take effect immediately, by the way.) Otherwise, you probably want to open a Get Satisfaction topic (http://getsatisfaction.com/mozilla_messaging/) to troubleshoot this, thenpost the link to it here; I believe Thunderbird has the functionality you want, it just needs a bit of tweaking to get it right (and Bugzilla isn't a very good place to tweak).
Sorry, thought this was the right place :( http://getsatisfaction.com/mozilla_messaging/topics/thunderbird_3_0_1_threads_not_threading
