Possibly a duplicate of bug 301681, but as that one died maybe a fresh start is better?

Hi AzerDict. Thanks for filing with your interest. Have you had a chance to email the 1l0n-drivers with the request? This is a good start. But, also send us an email so we can send you some more info. Email is l10n-drivers@mozilla.org.
Hi Dear Bugzilla,

I did also send message to l10n-drivers@mozilla.org as shown on registration page on the same day. I could not find right place to write the information you wrote. But if it could help you to clarify my purpose I can include them in this comment:

* the product you want to localize - Mozilla Firefox latest version (3.5 currently)
* the language country code - az-Aze
* your contact details (name email, web-page if available) - AzerDict, azerdict[at]gmail[dot]com, http://www.azerdict.com

Please let me know If I missed a point in registration of new localisation, I will try to fix it as soon as possible. Thank you again, I hope our localisation team will be created soon.

Regards,
AzerDict
In my previous message I meant Mozilla Firefox 3.6)))
No need to bother with that old bug.

For reference, there's no "mr bugzilla". There's Seth, and there'd be me, Axel, or Pike (which is my irc nick).

It'd be helpful to know which person is behind AzerDict, too.
OK Axel. From now on I will address you))

Actually there are three persons behind AzerDict. This is our common account and any of us can access this email. But if you would like personal mail account it is not problem too.

Summary: creation of new Mozilla Firefox localisation team for Azerbaijan → [az-AZ] creation of new Mozilla Firefox localisation team for Azerbaijan
In case you need a good reference to finish your work, please review the following documentation about creating a new localization:

https://developer.mozilla.org/en/Create_a_new_localization

Once you have made some progress, please attach something like a language pack to give us something to review. And, ask questions in this bug along the way.

Also, I am not sure if AzerDict is a group of individuals or one person working on this. It would be good to learn that names of the individuals are on this team. :)

We are already working on the translation through Narro. 30% of mozilla firefox's translation already translated. If you want to check this part it is not problem I attached it here. Furthermore If you would like to know my name I am Elshan. The other time it might me Yasin or Ferhad too)))
Thanks, Elshan. Good update. Please keep working and keep us abreast of the progress, asking questions along the way. Let's get an Azerbaijan Firefox! :)
You're welcome Seth. Nowadays we are a little bit busy in university. In few days we'll have spring break we hope we would be able to finish translation then and have Azerbaijani Firefox))) This time it's Elshan by the way

Azerbaijani Firefox 3.6

I'll need to give you an r- on this.

Overall, our compare-locales reports 25% changed/translated strings. No locale we're shipping is under 70%, and only a few under 80, to give you an idea of our expectations here.

I found a few more things that I'll give you right away, too:

In browser/chrome/browser/feeds/subscribe.properties
ERROR: argument 1 `s` should be `S` at line 30, column 26 within alwaysUseForVideoPodcasts

In toolkit/defines.inc you should have set your language name. You probably want to fix the locale code in toolkit/chrome/global/intl.properties, too (even though I'm not sure it's still used anywhere).

Otherwise things looks pretty good, so keep up the work and we'll get there.

Thank you Axel for your remarks. I corrected those errors you've mentioned. When the translation process is completed 50% I'll update the attachment file again.
Attachment #438886 - Attachment filename: 15-az.zip → Azerbaijani Firefox 3.6 (aze-AZ).zip
As I promised before I uploaded the new translation of Mozilla Firefox in Azerbaijani which is completed 50%. Please review and test it if you can, and let us know whether we are on the right way. By the way I corrected the previously mentioned mistakes in this edition.

Elshan

Farhad from bug 301681 has come close to completing a translation of Firefox 4.

I am hoping that the two teams can look at each others' work and consolidate efforts into one team. We have a lot of things needing l10n beside Firefox, so I am sure if we combined forces, we could accomplish a lot together. Has the Azerdict team chatted with Farhad from the above bug?
I commented in the other Azeri bug.

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=301681#c27
Please review this version of translation. I guess there are some mistakes but unfortunately I could not detect and correct them. Please help us to correct these mistakes, we're almost done
Attachment #448419 - Attachment is obsolete: true
The attachment is a language pack again, which means, my local toolchain won't cut it.

I've just went over to https://l10n.mozilla.org/narro/narro_project_list.php?l=az and actually downloaded the https://l10n.mozilla.org/narro/data/import/15/Firefox%203.6-az.zip from there. I hope that corresponds to the attachment.

We apparently haven't commented in this bug about that, but we're not going to take new locales on 3.6, yet I went ahead and ran the latest compare-locales version against the export.

Here's what my local stats for that export yield, against 1.9.2:

I'm not sure if the difference between 57 and 95% is an issue with the export from narro, or if this is strings inside narro, which are the same as in en-US.

The big chunk of errors looks rather drastic, but it's probably just that the " quotes should be escaped using "

Don't worry too much about the region.properties one, that'll need handling outside of narro anyway.

The other error messages need to be checked on typos in the variable formats.

The stats against mozilla-central yield a good 1000 additional strings missing. Yes, sadly, Firefox 4 is quite a jump compared to Firefox 3.6.

I've CCed Alexandru to comment on the differences in statistics.
Here the zip version of 95% completed translated firefox. Please review this file and tell me where are the mistakes and how can I correct them? What we need to do make this new translation appear on firefox official page?

Secondly, what you mean by saying you're not taking new locales?
Oh, interesting. That's looking a good deal different. My local stats say 89%, which is a great number.

That's making me curious, how did you get to that export?

On to the beef:

Compared to 1.9.2, we have the following:

The 9 errors are really errors, the 5 warnings are things that we should have a look at. They may not break the build, or do, or just be different choices. Like &brandFullName; may just not be the same pick for "Firefox" as in en-US.

On to the topic of "not taking new locales". We're not going to attempt to ship more locales on Firefox 3.6. We moved the efforts for new locales to Firefox 4, which is currently in beta. As you'd start in beta on 3.6 as well, the chance that you'd be out of beta on 4 before you get a chance to be out of beta on 3.6 is rather high. And, well, we want you to do Firefox 4 anyway, because, like, that's the sexy and fast browser that's in the press today :-)

This is less about "not taking", and very much about that we're sorry that we didn't really tell you that we'd really need that other 1000 strings. We should have really commented on the bug here on that. Anyway, those 1000 strings are getting you all the great stuff in Firefox 4, and we'll not harrass you with all the process work around a software release twice, in parallel for 3.6 and 4. Hope that makes sense to you.

On https://l10n.mozilla.org/narro/, Firefox 4 is called "Firefox Next" right now. Alexandru should be able to carry all your work on 3.6 into that version, or, if you feel savvy with the admin functionality you may have, you could do that yourself. I personally know only sad little details about narro, so I can't guide you through that piece.
Please be aware that 'az' (Azerbaijani) represents a macrolanguage that is made up of multiple languages.

It might be best to localize one of the sublanguages:
azb = South Azerbaijani
azj = North Azerbaijani

In addition, you may want to specify a script, since apparently 'azj' is written in either 'Latn' (Latin script) or 'Cyrl' (Cyrillic script) and 'azb' is written in 'Arab' (Arabic script).

With the more specific language and script subtags specified, I think it would be appropriate to drop the region subtag, as I don't think there are intelligibility problems among the readers of North Azerbaijani written in the Latin script.

Given that, I would recommend 'azj-Latn' to represent this localization.

There hasn't been any activity in this bug for a while.

We'd like to see you come back, we'd be interested in seeing a current effort to localize Aurora, http://hg.mozilla.org/releases/mozilla-aurora/.

For now, I'm resolving this bug INCOMPLETE, but feel free to reopen once there's new activity.
