Hey Steven. We'd like to create a slight variation of the standard 3.6 first run page for users who will be coming in from the upcoming European browser choice ballot.

The only different we've pinpointed so far is that we'd like to replace the current promo box about Facebook/Twitter with one that covers SUMO.

Here's the text:
headline - Need Help Getting Started?
detail - Visit our support page for answers and advice about using Firefox.
button - Get Firefox Help

As an image, we'd like to try using the illustration of the nurse that's used elsewhere on the site. No set recommendation on how/where it should go, other than it should obviously fit in with the rest of the page design.

Patrick, let us know what else I may have missed. Also, do you have a recommendation as to what the URL should be?

Steven, let us know if you have any questions. Thanks!
How will users be directed to this special firstrun page?
This will be the firstrun page for users who download Firefox from the Windows browser ballot, or from our supporting site for browser ballot users.

The ballot itself is a special screen that will be presented to Windows users in most of Europe who have IE as their default browser. Given that many of these users may be unused to installing or configuring software for themselves, we wanted to give a little more emphasis to SUMO on the firstrun.

Yes, I understand that. I'm asking for the technical details behind directing users to this page.
Should this EU ballot version of the firstrun page include the three promo box variations from bug 541524?

We'll have a special Browser Choice Firefox build, can the firstrun URL preference be adjusted there?

I'd vote yes.  Patrick / Slater ?

/firefox/3.6/browserchoice ?

or

/firefox/browserchoice/firstrun maybe?

Were those other promos localized? If not, I don't think it should be a priority to add them here. But, I've copied Pascal F who let that project and may have better input.

+1 from me

Thanks Alex-

The idea is to have this available for all locales that we expect to use in EEA (31 in total). We can fall back to the biggest 5 in Europe, worst case.

+1 from me too.

JSlater logged this bug just to do a mockup of the first run screen to see if we thought the UX was ok.

TO be clear, this build should contain
1. a different AUS code (what we are mocking up now)
2. a customised first run
3. an additional bookmark for the SUMO Windows page

Kev Needham will produce this as a partner repack. I hope this context helps - talking with Pascal C last Friday he seemed rather concerned about the process.

Good point. They have *not* been localized so far.
The 1st Run Promotions are en-US only (at this moment in time) and should only be used on this locale -- thus you're good and don't need to worry about this at all. :)
This page is setup for en-US in trunk in revisions r62107, r62137, and r62138.

I started the page in /en-US/firefox/3.6/firstrun/eu/ before the discussion about a URL started here, so it's there for now, but it can be moved:

http://www-trunk.stage.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/3.6/firstrun/eu/

While "/eu/" might not be great ("browserchoice" might be better), I would suggest keeping it in the /firefox/3.6/firstrun/ dir, as it is a firstrun page for 3.6.
Page is looking good, thanks Steven. We might have a few more content tweaks, but I think we're almost there.

One edit for now: the correct link in the SUMO promo is actually https://support.mozilla.com/%locale%/kb/Windows+start+page.

Thanks!
One more thing: we'd like to replace the AMO promo in lower right with the social networking one (that was in the upper right).

After that, and the change from comment #11, we should be all set. Steven, can you make these updates today?
SUMO link and social-networking promo are added in trunk in r62360.
Awesome, thanks Steven. I'm resolving this - will follow up with the WebQA team about next steps.

Verified FIXED on http://www-trunk.stage.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/3.6/firstrun/eu/, using Win32, Linux, and Mac OS X builds. I checked:

* layout
* validation
* links

Do note, however, that https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Windows+start+page prompts you for login; Chris Ilias notes that it's being tracked over in bug 542820.

Thanks Steven. Sounds like we can mark this as verified then?
