This would be duped to bug 523649 or bug 545469 after we resolve which is the master bug, or if both should be considered.

To me, one seems to be backend and one pref. Both valid, right? Well, feel free to close this one ...

I called the one "backend" to contrast it with my extension, but that was not the best term. I really meant "in the core product".
It appears to me that bug 545469 is incremental to bug 523649, so the main issue is addressed by the latter. In the end, this is a duplicate either way, it's better to resolve it now than forgetting about it later.
