Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1.7) Gecko/20091221 Firefox/3.5.7 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729) Build Identifier: 3.0.1 I have been unable to identify a repeatable set of conditions under which this happens yet, hence random. It is very apt to occur when I first open Thunderbird, but can recur at any time. It is not specific to the email message; a message that had a grayed-out delete button may subsequently have a working delete button if I reopen it. Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: 1. Opened same emails under multiple conditions (in results of search, in folder, in different sorts, moved to different folders. No consistency) 2. 3.
Have you tried safe mode? (see https://support.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode for more information) ?
Not yet, but since I have made few setting changes and installed no add-ons, the description of Safe Mode did not make it seem like a particularly useful tool in my circumstances. Will report back if Safe mode offers any enlightenment.
Additional information: I was using the Default theme, because I dislike the new folder arrangement, and had added a delete button to the message toolbar, because the delete button in the header was missing so often I assumed, at first, that the lack was a feature. Now running in safe mode. Delete button in header randomly disappears. Have still been unable to determine a pattern. Will continue running in safe mode and attempt to find a pattern.
When the delete button in the header is missing, using "F" to scroll to the next message is also disabled.
