Since I installed Firefox 3.6, I have a 80% chance that firefox.exe will still be running after I close all of the Firefox windows. I have actually closed Firefox down and tried to open Firefox hours later and I will get the message that Firefox is still running and I can not open a new window. The only way to stop firefox is with the task window. This is a problem since 2 other members of my household do not understand how to do that and are afraid to use the task manager.
Reproducible: Sometimes
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Just open firefox
2.Close firefox
3.Open firefox
Actual Results:
Window will pop up telling you the firefox is already running and it need to be close down to continue.
Expected Results:
Firefox should run. Version 3.5 and earlier did nit have this problem.

Do you have ghostery installed? Does this happen in safe mode? http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode

I ran Firefox in "Safe Mode" and never had a problem. I decided to run Firefox in the normal mode and turn off all add-ons. It ran fine. I decided to turn on certain add-in and leave other off. Here is my list:
Add-Ons turned on:
1) 1-ClickWeather 1.1.9.1
2) AI Roboform Toolbar for Firefox 6.9.98
3) Java Console 6.0.18
4) Java Quick Started 1.0
5) MultirowBookmark's Toolbar 4.6
6) TAB Mix Plus 0.3.8.2
Add-Ons turned off:
1) Download Sidebar 0.9.6.7
2) Microsoft .NET Framework Assistant 1.1 (this is my newest addition, it may be causing the problem)
3) SignupShield 04.10.01.03
4) Winamp Toolbar 5.6.11.2
Plugins enabled:
1) Adobe Acrobat 8.2.0.81
2) Java Deployment Toolkit 6.0.180.7
3) Java Platform SE 6 U18 6.0.180.7
4) Microsoft DRM 9.0.0.4503
5) Mozilla Default Plug-in 1.0.0.15
6) Shockwave Flash 10.0.45.2
7) Silverlight Plug-In 3.0.50106.0
8) Winamp Application Detector 5.5.7.2830
Plugins disabled:
1) Divx Player Netscape Plugin 6.1.0.0
2) DivX Web Player 2.0.0.254
3) Microsoft Office 2010 14.0.4514.1004
4) Verizon Service 3.5.10.40484
5) Windows Genuine Advantage 1.9.9.1
6) Windows Media Player Plug-in Dynamic Link Library 3.0.2.629
7) Windows Presentation Foundation 3.5.30729.1
Now for some reason when I disable the "1-ClickWeather" I loose the toolbar for "AI Roboform Toolbar for Firefox". I uninstalled 1-ClickWeather" and then re-installed it and now they are independent.
I am now going to turn on the "Download Sidebar"

george, if this does not happen in safe mode than it is one of the extensions you have. Just play around with them, and when you find the problem, report to the developer of the extension.

Will do.
That is my feelings, also.
Is there a way to tell what date the extensions were added and/or updated?
I can start by adding the last updated/installed and work back through time.
