From Bugzilla Helper: User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux 2.2.18pre10 i586; en-US; m18) Gecko/20000929 BuildID: 20000929 Right clicking on Inbox brings up popup menu that only allows creation of another folder, there is no option to create a subfolder Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: bring up mail right click on Inbox. Actual Results: only have option to create new folder. Expected Results: should say create subfolder, like right clicking on Drafts, Sent, etc.
Also seeing this on Build 2000100920 Mtrunk
reassigning to jefft. We are purposefully not allowing the Inbox to have subfolders.

Assuming you are using Imap server, it's all depends on the server. If a server doesn't set the \Noinferior flag then you can creat a subfolder for it. For example, Netscape 4.0 messaging server doesn't allow users to creat subfolders under Inbox. Meanwhile, Cyrus server only allow users to create subfolders under Inbox.
so this is not a bug? Can someone who knows more than me (jefft) mark it Invalid.
Stephen, if you can attach an imap client log that would be helpful to verify whether that's the case or not. Thanks,
I am not using imap. Being able to create a subfolder of Inbox is currently allowed in Netscape 4.76. Using Netscape I have filters that deposit various categories of messages into subfolders of Inbox. When I am viewing my messages if I get to the end of unread messages and press the 'n' key I prompted as to whether or not I want to go to the next subfolder of Inbox. With Mozilla not allowing subfolders I don't get this prompt and have to take my hands of the keyboard to use the mouse to select the next folder.
May be we have a terminology conflict here. :-) Correct me if I am wrong. This isn't a problem of not being able to create subfolder under Inbox. (If you are using Pop3 client you are definitely able to create subfolder under Inbox.) This is a problem of not granting keyboard shortcut "n" to traverse to next unread message in another folder. Updating summary to reflect the problem and reassign to putterman...

Summary: not able to create subfolder of Inbox → "n" not granted to traverse next unread message in another folder [not able to create subfolder of Inbox]
I have to mail accounts. The first one is an IMAP account at our corp hqtrs. The second is a POP3 account at my personal isp gte.net. In my mail display it looks like work account - this is the IMAP account INBOX ... Trash home account - this is the POP3 account Inbox Trash Templates Sent When I right click on INBOX under work account I get a popup that say create subfolder of INBOX if I put in a name and say OK I get subfolder under INBOX. If I right click on Inbox under home account I get a popup that says create a subfolder of "work account"! If I enter a name it creates another subfolder under work account that is at the same level as Inbox. I just verified this with last nites build.
Yes, if you have a selection on a folder right click allows you to do four things: o Open in a New Mail Window o New Folder ... o Subscribe ... o Search Messages ... New Folder allows you to create subfolder of an existing folder or a server. You can choose the parent folder/server from the drop down list of the new folder pop up dialog. For folders cannot be a parent folder the drop down list gray it out and not allowing it to be selected.
So is this still a problem or not? :)
