windows commercial build 2000-10-02-06-M18

- click "here" on XPinstall smoketest I.5
- click XPinstall test

Expected results: test is run and returns pass or fail

tested results: browser freezes. must cntl + alt + delete to escape
Sean, could you tackle this one? I'm not sure if the OS being win98 matters,
try it on NT too. I can't think of anything we changed so we'll probably end up
bouncing this off to the components folks.

twalker -- by "commercial build ... M18" you mean this is the trunk, not the
Netscape branch?

How do the trunk *Mozilla* bits behave -- they should be exactly the same, yet
this bug seems to imply this is a commercial only problem.
It was not my intention to imply that this is commercial only. I was asked to
always state specifically which build I see a bug on.... Also, I don't normally
do Mozilla bits testing.
Ccing David.
I'm pretty sure this is just a case of a hidden modal dialog or something. The
app doesn're really freeze, it just blocks you from interacting with it. I was
able to reproduce this problem with 100204 mozilla win32 mozilla trunk build.
note: other xpinstalls were successful like PSM and forumzilla.
There's no url specified in this bug report. I'm assuming you meant:
  http://mozilla.org/quality/smoketests/

Asa is correct. it's not really "hung". It just prevents the user from
interacting with it. No dialog shows up, but I would agree with Asa's
assessment of a hidden modal dialog (either off the screen or invisible).

This happens under both NT4 and Win98.

Dan, it doesn't look like something we've done, but I'll investigate this
further (Samir and I are theorizing it might be a javascript thing -
associative array problem).
FYI, the symptoms are separate from bug 53765 (apparently only observed on Mac
and Linux) but the workaround is common:

Instead of using |xpiArray={"pretty name":"some.xpi"};|
using this syntax  |xpiArray["pretty name"]="some.xpi";|

appears to make the trigger work succesfully in bot bugs' cases. Needs more
investigation.

Tracy or Jimmy - do you see this on branch builds?
lisa.....it wasn't present on yesterdays branch bits and is not on today's
windows branch...I haven't test linux or mac yet.
Likewise. The smoketest works for me, too.
cool. it fixed itself!

Here are some talkback reports for this crash that Tracy has been seeing. From
the looks of it, it looks very similar to bug 53123.

appearently Mitch's patch for bug:
  http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=56851
will fix this bug as well. I'm not entirely sure what to do with this bug
because it's not really a dup of bug #56851.

This is a different bug entirely. I'm not going to close this bug as a dup of
bug #56851, but as REMIND. If anyone has a better resolution state, let me
know.

ps. this is not an xpinstall bug, but something with JS.

Summary: browser freezes in attempt to perform XPinstall test (smoketest I.5) → browser crashes in attempt to perform XPinstall test (smoketest I.5)
saw something very odd on windows branch build 200010-18-10-MN6

attempted xpinstall test (smoketest I.5) it seemed to be doing something
(throbber was animated) then it posted the results for a search on the word
'slip'. very odd. this test was the first thing I did after launching.
works okay now.

commercial builds:

mac 2000-11-29-09-Mtrunk
