User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1.8) Gecko/20100205 SeaMonkey/2.0.3 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1.8) Gecko/20100216 Thunderbird/3.0.2 In TB3 and SM2, if I save a message as a .eml file and then open it from the File menu, it opens in a new window in which the "View Message Body As" feature does not work. The selection button moves, but the view does not change. This only happens with a saved file. If a regular message is displayed in a separate window, the "View Message Body As" feature works correctly. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Choose any text/html message that has non-trivial HTML content and save it as a .eml file. 2. Open the file in TB3 or SM2 3. Try to change the "View Message Body As" setting. Actual Results: The selection button moves, but the display does not change Expected Results: The display of the message should change to the new selection. I think this problem is related to the fact that the "View Message Body As" selection is a global setting. If you change it for the displayed message then it is changed for subsequent messages. I personally do not like this behavior. I think there should be a default setting that is is used for all newly displayed messages, and View Message Body As should override this for the current message only. I don't think the bug reported here would have occurred if this was the way things were supposed to work.

Have you tried safe mode? (see https://support.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode for more information) Was this already the case in 2.x ?

I encountered this bug as well. As per your suggestion, I tried opening the .eml message in Thunderbird (Safe Mode) and encountered the same problem. Workaround: Close the .eml file, change the "View Message Body As" setting, and then reopen the .eml file. This will render the message with the new setting.

Seems to work for me now. I'm currently using Thunderbird 14.0 on Windows 7 64-bit. I did get some security notices when I switch formats, but that may be related to the email I tried: Security Error: Content at moz-nullprincipal:{de95b9b4-0fbf-491e-826b-60636ddda2fb} may not load or link to about:blank.

This doesn't work for me, using Thunderbird Daily on Windows 7. But I think this is a duplicate of bug 310341...
