While the Foxkeh designs are basically licensed under CC BY-NC 2.1 Japan, there are no options except BY-NC-SA 3.0 U.S. http://www.foxkeh.com/faq/ http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/2.1/jp/ http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/3.0/us/ * Allow people to select an appropriate Creative Commons license (with a drop-down menu), or * Add BY-NC 2.1 Japan for Foxkeh as an exception: ----- People may share and modify my Persona as long as they give me credit and don't charge for it. My design will be licensed under the Creative Commons license Attribution-Noncommercial-Share Alike 3.0 U.S. For the Foxkeh designs, Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial 2.1 Japan will be applied. ----- Also, showing the credit '"Foxkeh" (C) 2006 Mozilla Japan' on the Foxkeh category pages would be appreciated.
Kohei, we are planning on allowing users to select an appropriate CC license when we move getpersonas.com to AMO. I did find the BY-NC for US: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/3.0/us/ , unless I've misunderstood something. Unfortunately our current upload flow only has a 'Creative Commons' option, which does not allow for selecting a specific CC license (a significant oversight in the design process). Considering this is a slightly complicated license issue, I'm cc'ing Julie for legal input. Kohei: do you have an opinion on how to handle the current Foxkeh designs?
Kohei: I spoke with Luis and this is our plan for the Foxkeh personas. 1) Allow the current Foxkeh personas on getpersonas.com to stay for now. 2) After we migrate all personas to AMO we will email the designers of all Foxkeh personas that they need to change their license to BY-NC unported (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/3.0/). They will also be required to add attribution to their persona descriptions. If they do not within 30 days we will remove them. 3) Unfortunately we cannot add a BY-NC 2.1 Japan license, we will only use unported licenses for AMO. Please let me know your thoughts on this, we want to find a reasonable solution. Thanks!
Thanks, we'll discuss it soon.

I don't see the reason to have authors change license for their Foxkeh adaptation. Since Mozilla Japan release Foxkeh images under CC BY-NC 2.1 JP, people can create derivative work and license their work under CC BY-NC-SA 3.0 Unported with no problem. (Though they should add attribution from the very beginning.) Also, CC license is irrevocable, so if the authors did nothing wrong, we shouldn't (and can't) have them change the license.
Are there next steps for this bug? What are they?
Support other licenses if they are not supported yet. Of the CC licenses, at least CC BY-SA and CC BY really need to be supported, and probably CC0 too. Normal themes can be released under ordinary software licenses like GPL and MPL, so why not Personas? According to comment #2, that was to happen… Has it? Will it?
