Hi,
We need some design work for the JägerMonkey project, preferably using a logo that includes a monkey rather than the stag. As for any lettering, I'm cc'ing dmandelin here so he can request the appropriate text.
Thanks for the help.

Hey all,
So I went a bit nuts yesterday and whipped up a lil monkey for this.
I have him on his own, but also in hunter's orange gear since JägerMonkey is basically "hunter monkey". Not sure if we want to be literal with that, but the option is there! :)
Let me know what you think of him thus far.

haha that's awesome. my 2 cents: hunting orange should be more intense and he could wear some leafy brown/green camo under the vest to make him a little more backwoods.

updated.
Lil guy now has more detail - now with arms and opposable thumbs!
The orange used is actually the Firefox swatch from the FF logo, so I'd like to keep it. I also used it in the Test Pilot logo. I'd like to remain consistent with that color.
I didn't add any camo underneath, but I gave him the "I am the proudest monkey" stance. He's a pretty confident little monkey.
Thoughts?

Would it be too ridiculous to give the monkey antlers? (It might clash with the blaze orange: hunter or hunted?)
The eyes are a little creepy ;) I'm not sure what the monkey is planning.
Looks great otherwise.

It is a very cute monkey indeed. I must admit, though, I also felt the same desire as comment 7 to see a monkey with antlers, hunter/hunted paradox notwithstanding.

Look closely at your Jaegermeister bottles, you connoisseurs -- the antlers frame the cross that St. Eustace saw while hunting. Wikipedia has the back-story.
Monkey should wear blaze orange, not firefox orange, or risk being mistaken for a fox worth bagging. Ask Waldo if you doubt me ;-).

So are antlers a must? I'm not sure if we have to get too close to the actual Jaegermeister logo, but I can try it. Hopefully it won't get too busy.
I can try blaze orange, but when it comes to printing, the color may give us some issues.

No, antlers are not a must and I think we should avoid.
Kidding about the blaze orange but something looks a little too muted (and Waldo will bag a monkey by accident if he's hunting fox).

Agree with sayrer on the camo bit -- the peach-y belly just feels out of place to me, an excess of cutesy. Orange, eh, it's close enough to work in my book -- but he'll need to switch into proper colors if he's ever going hunting with me, or at least limit himself to bow season.
And can we get a good hunting rifle in his hands? (Have to ask even tho it's better not to have it. ;-) )

I'll add a camo undershirt to hide his belly. I'm sure he'd be flagged as indecent in certain locales anyway.
As for the gun, I'm pretty sure we can't use weapons of any sort in our imagery once again due to other locales. I had pondered a bananazooka, but then thought better of it.

Thoughts on leaving the whites of his eyes?
the monkey I had used as a reference had zero white showing, but I added it in. I now think without the white he looks like he has less of a soul sucking gaze, more jungle animal.

Not sure I mind much with or without whites around the edges, but the shine feels to me as though it's too far up on the eyes -- they look, to me, as though they could be colored glass balls which themselves contain no life. If the shine were closer to center I think that problem might be avoided. I'm having a hard time imagining exactly how that would look, myself, so I could be wrong.
Camo looks great! I'm wont to agree with Waldo on the "glass balls", but the taking away the whites definitely makes a big difference. Doesn't have that "giant dilated pupil" look.

I'm going to say we're pretty much there if everyone is ok with the little guy minus the whites of his eyes + camo. I can lock him down if so.

Is the "M" supposed to be capitalized in JagerMonkey? (I don't actually know, just wondering.)

It isn't in Jaegermeister, so that might be the example we follow.

Ok.
Adding John Slater to the mix to get his creative/marketing feedback.
John, thoughts on the use of capitals in JagerMonkey/Jagermonkey?

Hi all. I know I'm weighing in late here, but I was telling Sean via email earlier today that, although the monkey by himself is super awesome, he doesn't really scream "speed" to me. You all are way closer to the goals of this project than I am, but my personal direction would be to bring the speed concept out more.
> John, thoughts on the use of capitals in JagerMonkey/Jagermonkey?
Yeah, that's a tough one! I guess the question I'll ask in return is, is it more important that this brand connect back to SpiderMonkey or to Jaegermeister? I don't have a strong opinion one way or another, but I think the answer to that question would solve this puzzle.

Any further comments on the use of JagerMonkey/Jagermonkey usage?
Shall we follow the SpiderMonkey branding and capitalize the M?
As for conveying speed in the logo, I think we went the route of associating with the play on the name and not the speed of the product. Anything added at this point may just add further visual complexity. My only thought would be to give him large running shoes or roller skates, but then we lose the monkey feet.
Any thoughts?

The M in TraceMonkey is also traditionally capitalized.
I like the monkey feet too.

Big M, trend in names is well-established. Monkey feet look fine, simpler to me.
Comment 28•16 years ago

I'd go with big M too. The latest logos look cool, but they do look kind of cutesy to me--can we make him 20% more bad-ass? I know most of our stuff runs cute, but I happen to like badassery.

Third?
Fourth -- something like http://shirtsanddestroy.com/blog/1268239719.png would motivate me to help bring about the JS engine apocalypse.

Changing the logo at this point will have to wait. Badassery would basically require an overhaul of the logo at this point and my lengthy list of to-dos continues to grow.
If we can put this on hold, I'll come back to it later on down the road.

It would also be nice to have a Mozilla/JS poster for the JS pit if that's part of the same manufacturing process -- the only one we've got is YUI superimposed over a *car engine* of unknown cylinder count, which would be offensive were Brendan not the keynote speaker.
