550308 - pastes carriage-return into Word rather than ¶ mark, leaving permanent space after each paragraph

  Copying text from any web page into Microsoft Word for Mac leaves spacing after every paragraph that can't be removed.  The "show" command displays carriage-return (right-angle) characters rather than the standard ¶ mark.  (But Word's find-and-replace feature can't distinguish these.)
  It works fine on Camino.

  This seems to be a general problem -- it's happened on a couple of different Macs, one using 10.5 and one using 10.6.

Severity:  really something in between "normal" and "minor."  The "workaround" is to use a different browser.

Reporter, are you still seeing this issue with Firefox 3.6.13 or later in safe mode? If not, please close. These links can help you in your testing.

Well, I have 3.6.10.  Don't know what "safe mode" is.
In fact, I have stopped using Firefox very much, as I find it failing me in situation after situation.

If you can update to 3.6.13, and read the safe mode link I gave you and retest to see if it still happens I'd appreciate it.

Whatever has screwed up my version of Firefox is still happening in 3.6.13, even in "Safe Mode."

Can you try to create a fresh profile as shown above and test there?

The Word thing still doesn't work properly, but some other things are now working.
Please don't follow up on this any further.  Now that I understand about profiles and how add-ons may be screwing things up, I will play around with Firefox -- most likely not until v. 4 is up -- and see whether I still have problems and/or can solve them on my own.
