User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2) Gecko/20100115 Firefox/3.6 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1.8) Gecko/20100227 Thunderbird/3.0.3 I added a newsgroup account, added some newsgroups and that worked fine, but when I added a second newsgroup account, the name and server of the one I added previous were changed to be the same so I ended up with two accounts with the same name and server names. Then if I shutdown Thunderbird and restart all the newsgroups in both identical accounts disappear. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Tools->Account Settings->Account Actions->Add Other Account 2. Select Newsgroup account, click Next 3. Enter Your Name and Email Address, click Next 4. Enter Newsgroup Server name, click Next 5. Enter Account Name, click Next 6. Click Finish Actual Results: Two accounts with the same name (the name of the one just entered). Both accounts have the same name and server name. When exiting the account manager only one is visible (the previous one), but if I shutdown Thunderbird and restart, Thunderbird now displays two newsgroup accounts with the same name and both are empty of newsgroups. Expected Results: Nothing should have happened to the original newsgroup account and the new newsgroup account should have been added below the original and be able to add groups to it. This only happens in Windows 7. In Windows XP, Thunderbird seems to work just fine. There is one thing curious that I noticed. In XP, in the Connection Security of the Outgoing Server (SMTP) Settings, the setting is STARTTLS, if available, but in Windows 7, it is only STARTTLS.
What version of Thunderbird is running on XP? Also, what are the newsgroup servers that you were connecting to? If you could try to reproduce this again in Thunderbird's Safe Mode (https://support.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode), that'd be good. (Especially if you find any messages on the Error Console and copy them here.)
> Actual Results: > Two accounts with the same name (the name of the one just entered). > Both accounts have the same name and server name. Did you change hostname(server name) after news account difinition? If yes, dup of 303542? Or problem like Bug 505465? > Then if I shutdown Thunderbird and restart all the newsgroups in both identical accounts disappear. Sounds similar phenomenon to; > Bug 549074 IMAP Accounts removed from pref.js after restart of Thunderbird > Bug 548735 Local Folders "account" has disappeared from the left hand folder pane with v3.0.2 Anyway, keep bacup of prefs.js, read bug I ponted, and check relation among account/server/identity related settings first, please. > In XP, in the Connection Security of the Outgoing Server (SMTP) Settings, the setting is STARTTLS, if available, (snip) "STARTTLS, if available" is obsoleted by Tb 3. If profile is used by Tb 2 and has setting of "STARTTLS, if available", Tb 3 displays it but with grayed out(unable to select at selection list). Select one of None, StartTLS, SSL/TLS.
