Details

OS: Linux Red Hat 2.2.12-20smp. Using Linux commercial installer from: ftp://sweetlou/products/client/seamonkey/unix/linux/2.2/x86/2000-09-29-09-MN6/ I have not been able to reproduce the bug while doing a "Recommended" install, only a "Custom" install as follows: INCLUDING: Mail & News English(DE)Language Pack Sun Java 2 EXCLUDING: Instant Messenger Spell Checker Quality Feedback Agent I got the error after 8 successful stages of install. The last success was: "Installing Sun Java 2 [8/8]" Then followed the message: "Extracting libxpcom.so ..." And then an immediate error: "Fatal error [-616] : Extraction of XPCOM failed"
that's not an xpinstall error number. might be os related. Reassigning to Samir.

Can't reproduce on our RedHat 6.1 machine. Grace, can you reproduce this on a RedHat 6.2 machine other than Phil's? Phil, what is your hostname? I'd like to try reproducing this on your host to help isolate. Thanks.

I don't have a static hostname. Currently, it is h-208-12-39-162

I'll need to look for a 6.2 machine - I use 6.1 also
I am able to reproduce this behavior if I run on Phil's machine. The integrity of xpcom.xpi checked out: xpcom.xpi appears to have all the libs intact in it. However, during extraction, after libplds4.so (the first lib) is decompressed libjar appears to be failing. Investigating further.
Phil, Are you still seeing this problem?
It's worse now - I crash when I try to do a Custom Install including only these two components: INCLUDING: Mail & News Sun Java 2 After 10/10 successful stages of download, the app crashes before any installation begins (or before the installatin GUI shows, at any rate).
Note: I had chosen the parent directory of the netscape-installer app as the install directory. I had this directory structure: /data/phil/55085/netscape-installer/ Then I did: cd /data/phil/55085 cd netscape-installer ./netscape-installer ... Q: Where do you want to install? ... A: /data/phil/55085 Is this a mistake on my part?
Sounds like Curt's domain now. CC'ing dprice since this involves extraction code.

Note: this does seem to be fixed. At least when I tried the steps in Comment #7 and Comment #8, the installation succeeded.
