Details
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1.8) Gecko/20100202 Firefox/3.5.8 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729)
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1.8) Gecko/20100227 Thunderbird/3.0.3
When adding Thunderbird's first mail account. Will checks for mail and synchronize from account regardless of account settings. Downloads emails without authorization from user.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Set up Thunderbird with heavily used gmail account that has never used IMAP
2. Work offline in Thunderbird
3. Configure using these server settings:
i) False- Check for new messages at startup
ii) False- Check for new messages every
4. Configure using these Synchronization & Storage settings
i) False- Keep messages for this account on this computer
ii) Synchronize the most recent 1 Days
iii) True- Don't Download messages larger than "1" KB
5. Click ok
6. Work Online
7. Either wait or restart Thunderbird
Actual Results:
Thunderbird will now download every message from my gmail inbox since account creation. Emails are moved and deleted on gmail account according to their management in the Client.
Expected Results:
No download of any mail from the gmail account. No alteration of gmails.
Thunderbird with the selected settings should only allow the user to send mail from client. Not receive mail from gmail account.
I am very familiar with software using IMAP. However upon setting up an gmail account in Thunderbird with the above settings, Thunderbird will continue to download mail off of my gmail account.
My gmail account is 5 years old. I have tens of thousands of emails. I do not want any of those emails to be downloaded to my computer. I selected these settings so I could send out html rich emails form Thunderbird. I do not want Thunderbird to manage my inbox or any emails.

No virus, no spyware, no hack. Just flaw or misunderstanding with software
