If you use Apple Mail and Thunderbird on a IMAP server, the first thing you'll notice is that the Sent Messages are stored in different places.  Thunderbird likes the Sent folder (easy, no space in its name).  Mac likes to use "Sent Messages" for some reason.

In order to see sent items from both applications its easier to change Thunderbird's default Sent folder, because from what I can see Apple doesnt let you do that.

This brought upon me an interesting problem.  When I send emails using Thunderbird with the above configuration, the emails will not appear in any of the relevant "Sent" Smart Folder's.  If I switch to the classic "All Folders" view it will be there.

If I am in "All Folders" and I send a message, the email will appear in the Sent Messages folder instantly.  If I switch to "Smart Folders" view and go to the top level Sent folder, the email will be there.

So it would seem that some trigger event is not occuring if you send an email from the "Smart Folders" view when you change the default "Sent" item of an account to something else.

I've been able to replicate this bug on Thunderbird 3 on Windows, Mac and Linux.  The latest nightly build of Thunderbird 3.1b1 is also affected.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Load up Thunderbird (Any platform, assuming windows in this example)
2.Setup an IMAP4 account
3.Create a new folder on the IMAP4 server called "Sent Messages"
4. Goto Tools/Account Settings
5. Click on the "Copies & Folders" for your IMAP4 account
6. Inside "When sending message, automatically" find the "Place a copy in" section, select "Other" and navigate the folder tree and select the "Sent Messages" folder
7. Click "OK" to save this setting
8. Select the "Smart Folders" view for the left hand plane
9. Select the "Sent" folder to refresh its cache
10. Select the "Inbox" folder
11. Send an email
12. Select the "Sent" folder
Actual Results:  
The list of emails does not update with the email you just sent

Expected Results:  
The list should have updated with the new email sent.

If this happens to you, switch to the "All Folders" view, select the "Sent Messages" folder and that will update the view for the folder.  When it is updated, switch back to the "Smart Folders" view.

Alternatively you could reload Thunderbird which wastes 2 minutes of my time if I try to do it.
