Once (TB 2.x and earlier) it was possible to get citation of as attachment forwarded emails.

The attached mail is missing.
Why changed this behaviour?
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.create dummy mail, store it
2. Open stored dummy mail as "forward", store forward draft
3. Open stored forward draft as "reply to".
X. Do above with TB 2 and TB 3.
(Same is possible with sent mail. But it save time, not sending them.)
Actual Results:
TB3 doesn't cite attached forwarded email.
TB2 does.
Expected Results:
TB3 works like TB2
Workaround:
open attached email separately, and reply to it.
But then Bug 552409 occurs ;-(
Now related to Bug 544359

G.lamken can you find the bug who changed this behavior ?
Component: General → Mail Window Front End
QA Contact: general → front-end

Do you mean by regression range, going step by step back in nightly builds, or do you mean a person?
(In reply to comment #0)
I have to add that the email with as attachment forwarded email must displayed with option "View/Display Attachments Inline".
If this is checked than:
TB 2.0.0.24 and older cite the email plus attached email as described above.
TB 3.0a1 and later cites only the main text but not the attached email text.

Unfortunately I don't have any developer skills to check source code or even to handle csv to get the right one. ;-)

I meant regression hunting like described at http://www.rumblingedge.com/2009/02/24/howto-find-regression-windows-through-manual-binary-search/ .

we stopped quoting attachments of any kind (e.g., .txt files) in 3.0, and I would think that's when we stopped quoting forwarded messages as well. See bug 161775

Should I take that literally? With TB3 and later versions I won't be able to answer gated mails in our news-board, what we did over X years since Netscape was available?
Now we have to find an other Mail-Client or spend much time to reconfigure our news-board?

This and depending discussion sounds different to me.
Therefore I think this is just a misunderstanding. What's about mentioned prefs to toggle this behaviour?

When you toggle the pref "mail.reply_quote_inline" to true using the config editor, does TB 3 behave the way you want?

Sorry,
the environment where I had to test this was not available for some day. (Better: I was not available for it ;-) )
Yes, thanks,
"mail.reply_quote_inline" on 'true' brings the expected behaviour.
This helps for a while but
this should be standard.
If you have "View/Show attached inline" than you see attached text as part of content. If you reply and have configured that you want cite previous content, than you expect the whole content you have seen before and don't want to think about under which technical conditions the previous content was visible.

Reporter,
do you still see this problem when using a current version of thunderbird?
And if you do not, please close bug report by changing resolution to worksforme

Sorry,
with comment 12 I saw myself out of duty.
Worksforme fits.
I see the rest of my statement is a matter of taste.
