Trying to migrate from Eudora to TB 3.0.3, I noticed that some mailboxes had fewer messages than they had in Eudora. I've isolated those messages. I was very surprised to find that their invisibility is very durable. If I transfer them to a different folder in Eudora, then import to TB, they still don't get imported. I've looked at the messages that are invisible to TB. They seem unremarkable. However, all of them are from the year 2000. None of them have attachments. Some of them formerly had attachments, but they don't now.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Import messages from Eudora to Thunderbird
2.Check to see if all transferred.
3.Nope.
Actual Results:
-I don't know how to describe this any better.
Expected Results:
Transferred the messages.
I tried the mailbox cleaner program ... made no difference.
I think this is a major problem. Giving people the feeling that all of their emails have been imported, when they have not, undermines Thunderbird's credibility. For many people, by the time the find out that they're missing some of their emails, they won't have a backup.
If there's someone interested in working on this problem, I would share with them the files containing these messages. I don't want to post them for the whole world, but they're not particularly confidential.

Don, can you attach file of the failing messages to this bug, either as a zipped folder or individual messages? if you need to, please sanitize any personal information first.

Don's testcases have been forwarded to beckley
I just installed Thunderbird 3.0.4 and had the same problem.
The import stopped as soon as it found a folder with a comma in it's name.
This was the offending folder name
richard,7zbx
Re-naming the folder (from within Eudora) to
richard 7zbx
then re-importing all email folders into Thunderbird fixed the problem.
My version of Eudora (5.1) allows commas in the folder names.
Operating system is windows XP with service pack 3.
Hope this helps someone.

This aspect is a dupe of bug 372714, which is fixed in the latest versions of Eudora.
Importing from Eudora was removed from Thunderbird in bug 1243498.
Please see http://kb.mozillazine.org/Importing_from_Eudora_-_Thunderbird on how you can still import from Eudora if you need that.
