I suspect Zamboni is connecting to Sphinx incorrectly *or* Sphinx on preview is indexing production data.

Can I get a copy of sphinx.conf for preview (actually run it from the commandline) so I can see what it is supposed to look like (remove MYSQL password before posting).

We need to verify the SPHINX port, and the database it's connecting to.

It's connecting to tm-stage01-master01 and the port is 3312.

The preview configuration is:
