RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 554279

(Reporter: murph.0912, Unassigned)

Details

Starting with Trunk nightly build Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.3a4pre) Gecko/20100317 Minefield/3.7a4pre - Build ID: 20100317041424 (Built from http://hg.mozilla.org/mozilla-central/rev/16a974dd72e1), the Navigation Toolbar will intermittently reset to it's default state. Opening the toolbar "Customize..." dialog will show only the other browser toolbar buttons. Opening the Add-on Mgr. will show all installed extensions. Any extension-added Status Bar items, i.e., Weave, Stylish, etc., will be present and functional. Any extension-added menu items, i.e., Restart Minefield from MR Tech Toolkit in the File menu, are also present and functional.

So far, restarting the browser seems to correct this except for having to re-add my nav toolbar customizations such as placing extension-added buttons on the toolbar.

Conditions under which this seems to appear:

First start of the browser following a cold boot such as turning on computer in the morning after being off over night.

Installing/updating/enabling/disabling an add-on, though, not always. (I stepped through all my installed extensions re-enabling them one at a time and the nav toolbar never reset during this.)

Updating the browser, though, again, not all the time.

I must apologize for being unable to isolate this issue to a particular add-on. Like I said above, I disabled all add-ons and then stepped through enabling each one at a time AFTER I inserted a flexible space between the stop and reload buttons to force the displaying of both and at no time on each restart did the nav toolbar reset.

I belive other Windows OS users have also reported this. I have not yet seen this on Linux, though.
For your convenience, here are my installed extensions:

Not sure what you mean by that sentence. However...

The way this bug worked for me was that: when the bug was present, the items in the Customize Toolbar dialog consisted only of the default icon set. The way to track down which extension is causing the problem is as follows:

1. Make sure you have an extension installed that adds toolbar items to the Customize Toolbar dialog but does not cause the reset. Flashblock is one such and does not cause problems. I see you already have that installed.
2. Disable one or a group of your extensions and restart.
3. Check Customize Toolbar dialog to determine if all you see more than the default icon set. If so, the responsible extension is the one (or part of the ones) you disabled.
4. Continue until you've determined your set of extension that does not leave the Customize Toolbar dialog with only the default icon set.

This means only the browser default set of buttons are present when the nav toolbar resets. However, a restart usually corrects this by making the extension-added toolbar buttons available in the Customize... dialog.

Evidently you missed what I said in my initial post. I disabled ALL of my extension and then enabled them one at a time and AT NO TIME AFTER EACH RESTART DID THE NAV TOOLBAR RESET TO ITS DEFAULT STATE. I challenge you to tell me how I can ID a culprit extension when that happens.
