Can't you achieve that with filters ?
Not readily. A filter runs on the actual content of the message; the topic by which I want to search for something may or may not actually be referenced by a certain word in the subject or body of the email. For instance, if I want to be able to search for all emails related to "health," I may be pulling up messages about oral care, herbs, nutrition, etc., and 95% of them may not share any obvious keywords in common. But if I could tag all of these messages with "health," I could find them all easily.

Tagging is already possible (see the 5 color labels, where you can add your own), but very clumsy. So duping to the meta bug 432710 ...

I think WFM is more accurate - i.e. already works. See updated http://kb.mozillazine.org/Tags

The tag itself works, but there's still a lot of work to do. Currently, it's only useful if you have 9 tags or less, since they're still connected to the number keys (and 9 different colors). See for instance bug 370076 for a better interface to create and manage the tags.

Ah, I see your point. However I think additional clarity may be needed from the reporter. Plus, the bugs blocking the meta might not address an issue of importance to the reporter. The meta itself fixes nothing so I'd suggest against duping to this meta. for tag search, gloda searches tags. But there are some holes, which have bugs against them. Are we are missing any bugs? for tag definition, the reporter hasn't defined what if anything is lacking.

I am gathering that you all think I haven't fully clarified what I'm requesting. I think. But I don't fully understand most of the comments. Sorry for my density. Am I understanding correctly that you would like me to expound/clarify?
