After Thunderbird's startup, meanwhile Lightning jumps to today's date (fixed Bug 547445 - works well).
However if you are working with Lightnig and let's say manually select 01 Jan. 2020 and THEN go to the mail Tab and THEN go back to the Lightning Tab, 01. Jan. 2020 is still selected. In that case I would also expect Lightning to jump back to today's date.

Reproducible: Always
Severity: normal → enhancement
Voting for WONTFIX. I can imagine workflows that involve switching between Mail and Calendar tab to look up something in one or the other. Switching back to today needs one click, but selecting the observed date again would need more clicks.
My request just reflects Lightning's old behaviour under Thunderbird 2:
In TB 2, when you clicked the Lightning Button, Lightning always jumped to today - irrespective of what day/date was selected before.

At least an option for getting back this old behaviour would be nice. Then the user could decide which behaviour he wants.
This sounds like a good idea, but I think it makes more sense as an extension. Marking WONTFIX for core calendar.
