Japanese characters are not displayed correctly in Java Applet.
After I upgraded MRJ to 2.2.3, Java started working on Mac.
However, Japanese characters are not displayed correctly in Java Applet.
Tested 2000-10-05-MN6 Mac build on System 9.0J.

Adding rtm keyword. Ftang, do we think this needs to be marked [RTM Need Info]?
Who would address this one?
Jaime, did you get the latest mail from Brian Beck?

Ed - As we discussed yesterday, we did not receive any communication from Brain.
Besides, this is a Mac bug, right? I think we may be talking about 2 different
issues here. Please Advise . . .

No current activity, please mark rtm- unless you are building a small, safe
patch that could be considered.

http://www.hitsuji.to/ScrollString1.html.
Changed the URL to an external one so that external
testers can also see the problem. The internal one is
as above.
George, this is the bug Bob Jung was telling you about.
We need a quick analysis on a debugger to see where
the problem is located. On both Japanese & English Mac with
MRJ 2.2.3, you see something which looks like 8-bit
Latin characters insetad of Japanese. Looks like incorrect/non-Japanese font is
used for dispay.

We need help in assessing if this is something
we can fix during L10n process or something we can
fix after the product has shipped with a replacement
of a file or something and without modifying the
binary itself. As we arree preapring localized builds
for NS6, your quick assessment is highly appreciated.

Did you install the JLK? Works fine for me. Moz 0.7, MacOS 9.1, JLK. Choose
'View:Character Coding:Auto-Detect:Auto-Detect(Japanese)' to get things going.
A possible bug- nothing shows up in the title bar, though a Japanese destination
shows up in the 'Go' menu.

Terry, this is a bug that has to do with Japanese characters within
a Java applet display widget. Not the HTML display of Mozilla.
The HTML portions displays OK but Java widgets don't display
Japanese characters even with Japanese fonts from JLK.

Terry wrote to me privately saying that with the
above mentioned build (Mozilla 0.7) on OS 9.1,
the applet actually displayed Japanese.
I think we should re-test this to find out:
1. If there are differences among different Mac OS version
(8.6, 9.0, 9.1, etc.).
2. What MRJ version is being used. And where that was obtained.

I tested this in 2001020513 Mac build. Japanese characters are displayed
correctly in Applet by using MRJ to 2.2.3.

Terry, if you can duplicate Teruko's findings from today, you can mark this
fixed.

Marking as FIXED. Was fixed in the browser somewhere between 0.6 and 0.7 releases.
