Modern operating systems provide online disk-defrag APIs. Would be nice to have an extension that can enumerate files used by firefox and check their fragmentation levels.

I'd like this extension to integrate into a theoretical about:performance with a "measure fragmentation" button that would prompt the user for admin password, run some tools and produce a report. The tool could also attempt defragmentation.

Windows is where most of our users are.

http://lwn.net/Articles/317787/ linux already has this in xfs, patches are available for ext4.

Some day Apple will get there too.
this feels like a performancey thing and outside the purview of the Developer Tools at least at the moment. Can you reassign this to your perf team's component, Taras?

Thanks!
