RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 395484

People

(Reporter: da.dekudude, Unassigned)

Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2.3) Gecko/20100401 Firefox/3.6.3
Build Identifier: Mozilla 3.6

Simply, Firefox, and other Mozilla products, have no acceptable interaction with Windows' new Voice Recognition software. You might want to look in to it; it's a big deal for those with accessibility issues, or simply those who like talking to their computer rather than touching it. Shouldn't be too difficult to fix.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open Firefox
2. Talk to it
Actual Results:
Computer failed to "go to google.com"

Expected Results:
The computer should have immediately gone to Google... or at least typed it in the address bar.

I am mostly talking about the new Vista / Windows 7 Voice Recognition. However, this can apply to XP's as well.

I would expect the reporting search tool to find this bug.

I just searched under Core and Firefox for 'speech recognition' and 395484 do NOT show.

Not surprising a duplicated was filed here...

Odd. How did you search? https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/buglist.cgi?quicksearch=speech+recognition shows the bug in question, for example... (this is the search off the http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/ front page).
Press the New link for a bug, select either Core, or as most new reporters would, FireFox, then when it prompts to search, enter the term there.

No matching results are shown.

As the Product shows Core, I then selected Core rather than Firefox, and it is still not shown.

This duplicate one is, but not the original, despite it showing as product Core...

That search bug should show the bug too and then perhaps less duplicates would be entered.
Hmm. I bet you were using <https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=Core&format=guided> and using the search box that's right on that page?

I can confirm that this one search (of the 4 of 5 different ways to search Bugzilla that I just tried) doesn't find bug 395484. And of course this is the search most likely to be used by new bug filers...

And the reason that search doesn't find bug 395484 is that it only searches bugs that were filed in the last 6 months(!). Gerv, why the heck does it do that? And if that's on purpose, can we please teach triagers to not complain when duplicates of bugs older than 6 months are filed? ;)

David, thanks for pointing out this problem!
