I frequently use the mozilla add-ons web site either to find something I want, or to help other users in the support forums. However, lately I find I'm frequently resorting to other tools to find add-ons on your web site such as domain specific google searches because its just too aggravating to find something using the user interface. I'm not talking about the fact that a search for Thunderbird add-ons returns many Firefox add-ons or that any search provider is listed for all applications (though that doesn't help), I'm talking about the basic design of the user interface.
Please consider account options to customize the user interface to the needs of experienced users. i.e. kill the advertising (the list of collections, the animated list of add-ons, the most shared list, the list of recommended add-ons etc.), enable old school browsing for add-ons, and enhance the search capabilities of the advanced search link (for example support regular expressions or google like search syntax).
If you implement this via options in the account profile it would have no impact on new users.
Reproducible: Always

Hi Eric,
I feel your frustrations, and you address a few specific issues, but they would be better served being broken up into separate bugs.
For each of your bugs if you can make one specific request, I can address it. Search syntax is something we have quite a bit of latitude with, so I'm sure it can be addressed.
Thanks for sharing your other UI concerns, they will be taken into account.
Cheers,
-d

I split off https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=559216 (advanced search), https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=559218 (advertising) and https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=559232 (browse all add-ons in a category)
