I transferred a domain name to another server. When the transfer went through, I deleted the e-mail account, using Account Settings in Thunderbird. The account no longer shows up there.

However, Thunderbird continues to check for messages, and I get an error message that interrupts whatever I'm doing every 10 minutes. It says that Authentication failed. 

When the domain transfer was done, my server deleted the account, as was appropriate, so it's obviously responding to the requests from Thunderbird.

This is maddening. The error messages take precedence over whatever I'm doing. The cursor is taken out of my control and procedures that I'm doing (such as cut'n'paste) are interrupted.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start Thunderbird.

It continues, even on exiting Thunderbird.
can you look into your prefs.js file and clean it up and remove the entries referring to the old account ?

Thank you - that's just the help I need. I've found the file and looked at it.  I can see approximately what needs to be removed, but don't know exactly how much to delete.

Is the first line to be removed the one that contains the e-mail address? 

If so, do I need to remove everything up to the next line with a different e-mail address?

Heidi, was this an imap account or a pop account?
