In Preferences->Tabs the "Open new window in new tabs instead" is Unchecked. However, while clicking on Google search results, this setting is automatically checked. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Preferences->Tabs Uncheck "Open new window in new tabs instead" 2. Make sure the setting is saved 3. www.google.com, enter "anything", click search 4. Start clicking on the google search result links 5. Eventually, the links start to open in tabs, not windows 6. Go to Preferences->Tabs and see "Open new window in new tabs instead" is checked, even though you didn't do that. Actual Results: Firefox acts as preferred Expected Results: Settings autocheck I use a Portable version from portableapps.com
How do you click the links in step 4? Are you using any key modifier (alt, ctrl, shift)?
No, just clicking the main button (left if you are right-handed). I'm trying to reproduce this with desktop capture enabled. But the bug seems to be too shy to get himself caught on video.
Does it also happen in safe mode (http://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode)? Also please tell us which mouse you are using and if you have set system-wide preferences for that button.

That turned out to be plugin-related. iMacros for FF in 99% cases changes "Open new windows in tabs instead" to True while running a macro. I filed a bug to iOpus ages ago, don't know if they fixed it or not
