User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2.3) Gecko/20100401 Firefox/3.6.3
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2.3) Gecko/20100401 Firefox/3.6.3
This is what happens when I click on the printer-friendly button about halfway down the page: "Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because the Protocol (JavaScript) isn't associated with any program." It also fails to log in to some sites using Roboform shareware password program. I thought for a while it was Zonealarm Pro & their tech support showed me how to set Firefox as "most trusted", but that didn't help. Also tried shutting down Zonealarm while testing the above URL, but that didn't help either. When I found that it was working OK in Internet Explorer, I knew for sure where the problem is.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.See Details above.
2.
3.
Actual Results:
See quoted message in Details, above
Expected Results:
A printer-friendly page, usually in a 2nd occurrence of Firefox (not a tab). Or, in the case of Roboform, a successful login to a secure site.
BTW, did I tell you on other Windows XP machines with the same setup, it's not occurring?
I have used & preferred Firefox for years, & do not want to use Internet Explorer or make it the default browser.
I also tried using Firefox in Safe Mode with the same results.
Checking about:config show only the following user set booleans
pref.advanced.javascript.disable_button.advanced;false
javascript.options.showInConsole;true
javascript.options.strict;true
network.protocol-handler.external.javascript;true

Can you try the same issue in a new profile? See http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Profiles on how to create one.

I'll try the new profile ASAP. Don't know when. Questions: (1)I don't think I can shut down the Windows 7 Firewall. (2) I'll see if I can disable the Symantec Antivirus without uninstalling or do you have any suggestions about it?

Yes, you can disable the windows firewall. As for symantic, contact them on disabling it.

I did the following things: 1. restores Mozbackup profile from a working Firefox. Disabled Zonealarm. Disabled Symantec. Disabled Windows firewall.
Bow I have put back all Security & it still works so I credit the restore, I think.
But you guys have been a part. I'm also a Christian, so praise the Lord!

It's back to not working at all again. Different behavior: no action, no message.
Tried 3 different profiles. Don't think it is Security programs (Windows 7 or Zonealarm, because IE8 works fine!)
Open to suggestions.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, tried 3 profiles. I am thinking of uninstalling completely using Revounistaller (sp.? of a processor which cleans the disk & cleans the registry of all traces), then starting from scratch with a blank profile. However, I might try a small cheat: Mozbackup from a working profile on another machine & restoring it to the new blank profile. What do you think of that?

Addenda. I double-checked for NoScript extension & it was not installed.

First, I tried new & different profiles, with no positive results. Then I did a thorough uninstall using Revouninstaller, which deletes registry entries & even the profile space (I believe). Then I reinstalled all desired extensions & a theme using results from a comparable Infolist from before. It worked, so there must have been something in the registry which caused the problem or on the hard disk. Restoring a profile from a working profile on another machine failed to remedy the problem, so I conclude there was something on the hard disk or in the registry which caused the problem.
