User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1.5) Gecko/20091102 Firefox/3.5.5 WebMoney Advisor Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1.5) Gecko/20091102 Firefox/3.5.5 WebMoney Advisor I've read some fixes online but nothing helps. It says to copy all the fonts from the Fonts folder somewhere, then delete all the fonts from the Fonts folder and after that copy the fonts back. I am using Win7 and I cannot delete Times New Roman and then replace it, it says that the font is "System Protected". This bold rendering started just a few days ago, after I've updated to the last FF build. In some cases, the default font is not bold, but in Italics or both styles. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Google.com 2.Gmail.com 3.Anything google. Actual Results: All the text is in bold. Expected Results: Render the text in normal style. This bug have been reported by a lot of users on different OS's and platforms.. WinXP, Macs, etc... Please fix the bug asap.
Attached image Screenshot of the bug —
General google search, all text in bold.
All the e-mail (read/unread) appear in bold which makes it difficult to understand the e-mail status.

The issue must be identified to see if it's our bug and where it is. reproducing the bug is required in such cases. What must I do with my windows installation or my Firefox installation to get your result ? Please try a new Firefox profile: - http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Managing+profiles

Didn't need to uninstall/reinstall a thing :)
(In reply to comment #5) > Does this proposal work for you? nope, it did not.. I've tried basically all the proposals, none of them is working. Maybe it's a windows issue, maybe FF, but this happened just a while ago, 4-5 days maximum.
Mike, could you try the testpage linked to in the URL? Do you see regular/italic/bold/bold italic styles? If you could attach a screenshot that would be great.
So your not using higher DPI or FF zoom settings other than the default?

I see just a screenshot, not a link itself, can you please give me the link of that style page? (In reply to comment #9) > So your not using higher DPI or FF zoom settings other than the default? nope :) I've noticed that the font is rendered like this as well in IE8, and not only in Google, but on some other websites as well. I think the issue is in windows... :(
Click up above where 'URL' is listed on this bug. I'm guessing you're missing a font or something weird but the test will indicate more. http://people.mozilla.org/~jdaggett/tests/bug563621.html

Good, that looks perfectly normal. My guess is maybe your font settings were changed at some point. Use these steps: 1. Enter 'about:config' in the URL bar, click through the warning 2. In the filter box, enter 'font.' You'll see a list of font.xxx properties (these are what get changed when you alter things in Prefs > Content > Fonts : Advanced). Scroll through the list. Are there any that are bold (which means different from the default value)? If so, reset those and see if that helps.

Only one string was "user defined" - something related to printe, I have resetted it. Same thing... :(
Mike, could you try running Firefox in safe mode (*not* the same as Windows safe mode)? http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode Also, have you tried this with 3.6? Sorry to keep asking you to try things but I'm at a loss to see how this bug could occur.
I actually really appreciate your help and your efforts in helping me. Let me try do this. .. I've tried - again not working :) I think the problem really is my Windows.. I'll seek the answer in the core. P.S. My version is 3.6.3
Did you try creating a new profile? http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Managing+profiles Just to confirm, you don't have any font management software (Font Suitcase, Font Explorer X, etc.) installed right? It might be useful to also test with the latest nightly: http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/latest-trunk/firefox-3.7a5pre.en-US.win32.installer.exe When the installer runs be sure to do a custom install and be sure to click off the option to make "Minefield" the default. Beyond this, I can set up a special logging build that will spit out info on the exact details of font matching, that might help track down the problem.
I've just uninstalled Bitstream Font Navigator, deleted all fonts from the system, reinstalled them, restarted the PC, reset IExplorer 8... Same thing :)
(In reply to comment #20) > I've just uninstalled Bitstream Font Navigator, deleted all fonts from the > system, reinstalled them, restarted the PC, reset IExplorer 8... > Same thing :) Ah, so you had a font management program installed, interesting. Same behavior with the nightly build version of Firefox?
I notice having downloadable fonts turned on by default makes some website text bold, where it isn't normally.
I think there is something strange also going on in Minefield. If I try changing some of the cleartype prefs also, i can turn on bold text, though I cannot necessarily turn it off by flipping the same pref again even after a restart. I wonder if prefs are not initialized on startup. Specifically if I create a new profile, view Planet Mozilla, all the posts are normal, if I turn on Cleartype always use for content, restart, and review the Planet Mozilla posts again, I see the bottom half of the posts are all bold now, if I try and flip the pref back to false, restart, I get the same bold text as before. I cannot speak to things like IE though.

Same behavior. But the font navigator is OK, I mean I have it installed for ages and it was ok, did not influence the font rendering before.(In reply to comment #23) > I think there is something strange also going on in Minefield. Let's see what happens...
The problem is solved! It seems that I've missed the Arial font, I had just the Bold, Italic, Narrow and their combination, but not the regular one. I've downloaded the Arial font pack, installed, restarted and everything works as before. Thanks guys for you help in finding the answer.
Good to see. The issue with the bolding on planet mozilla is one of the downtime posts that was present has this without proper tags either for open or close: <strong/> it breaks the rest of the posts below it, maybe a parsing error since it goes on and off. Will file a bug I think.
Well, suit yourself. You can suggest to the people who have the same problem, to install Arial font from scratch.
