You can see what it looks like in this image : http://img179.imageshack.us/img179/9943/20100513000405.png Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Have a long thread with high deep 2. Fold it 3. You'll see part of the thread Actual Results: Part of the thread is not hidden under the folding Expected Results: Fold all messages of the thread
So you'd like the last ones to be visible on the same line ? Does it unfolds better if you make the subject column wider ?
The last ones should be folded for me. On the picture, the selected line is the folded thread ; the lines under should have been folded inside the first line.
Do you still see this issue when using version 5 or 6 (due out a week)? - If you no longer see the problem, please set status to RESOLVED, and set resolution to WORKSFORME. - If you still see the problem, please provide updated details, and any additional steps needed to reproduce the problem.

I still have the problem. The thread is around 720 emails, and the fist not-folded is the 514th message. The maximal depth is below 300, but not far from it. The IMAP source is a GMail account, I just reinstalled Thunderbird on my computer (v5.0). Moreover, i noticed that Thunderbird seems to be «lost» in threading : http://img806.imageshack.us/img806/6184/tb50bug.png
Depends on: 459659
(please attach images to the bug, so they become part of the permanent record. thanks) This can be help by Bug 459659 - Threaded view tree hides deep subjects (excessive spacing) and losing threadlines prematurely. But ultimately, as discussed on IRC, developer says "it will always be possible to have threads that are indented past our ability to show them.." That said, beyond bug 459659, there may be other ways to mitigate this for deep threads. We could file them as new bugs. Summary: Thread folds not all its messages → Long thread with many messages does not show subject for all messages
Whiteboard: [closeme 2011-09-01]
So, looking at the description and the original screenshot, it sounds like when we collapse a really large thread, not all of the messages actually get collapsed, which is different than the current summary. Do you agree, Wayne? And if so, does that make this not a WONTFIX?
my bad - I was struggling to interpret the word "fold", and totally missed the collapse widget in the screen shot. WFM using current trunk on a 600+ article thread in mozilla.general newsgroup with subject "Chris I- "The man"" dated 2011-05-05.
