User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.6; en-US; rv:1.9.2.3) Gecko/20100401 Firefox/3.6.3 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.6; en-US; rv:1.9.2.5pre) Gecko/20100515 Lanikai/3.1pre In Lanikai when you search you click on what filter you want to use. That selection is remembered across mailboxes. This amounts to an unwanted change of behavior. Consider the case where one goes from searching Inbox to Sent. This means that one is likely to want to change from searching sender to Recipient. It's annoying (to say the least) to have to constantly change filters. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Type in the search box 2. Select Sender or recipient 3. Change to a different mailbox Actual Results: Note the filters have not changed Expected Results: Filters should be recalled from last search in a given mailbox.

This sounds like you have selected the "pin" option on the search, which is at the left-hand end of the quick filter bar. Try deselecting that and then switching to another folder.

Mark, it's not the case, and I suspect I'm not explaining myself properly. If you look at the first screen shot (Attachment 445705 [details]), you see that I have typed "Bruno" in the search box, and that Sender is selected. This makes sense since the AtMe folder contains messages that are sent to me. In the second screen shot (Attachment 445706 [details]), you see that I am now looking at my Sent folder, have typed in Bruno again, and that Sender is still selected. This makes no sense since only messages I send end up in the Sent folder. Observe that in neither case did I select the pin. I view this as a bit of a regression since previous versions of Thunderbird due keep the search context separate between folders (or perhaps at least Sent is handled as a special case).

Well, I'm trying that here, and I'm not able to reproduce it at all. Do you see anything in Tools -> Error console when this happens? Have you tried safe mode? (see https://support.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode for more information)

Mark, what have you selected for filters? Just sender for one and recipient for the other? And they stick? Yes, I've tried safe-mode.

(In reply to comment #6) > Mark, what have you selected for filters? Just sender for one and recipient > for the other? And they stick? Oh, ok, you mean the sub-filters. Trying to adjust the summary a bit better. I don't think there's any harm in sticking sub-filters across folders. The only thing I'd perhaps suggest is considering swapping between Sender & Receipients if either one of them is selected and you go from an inbox style folder to a sent style folder. Anyway cc'ing our User experience guy for comment.

Mark, we actually had that magic swap behaviour in TB2 (albeit with incorrect UI), probably TB3.0, too. This is a regression, which I filed as bug 586729. Fixing Bug 586729 will fix the main problem of this bug. I'm not sure if we need more than that. Let's fix 586729 and then see if this is still wanted. Feel free to reopen if you disagree.
