Firefox has a <Home> button which is activated by pushing the <Alt-Home> keys.  Lightning should have the same facility for returning to "Today"

alt-Home is reservered for the mail start page in Thunderbird, so we can't use that without a hassle.

You can use Strg+KeyDown in the calendar view to switch to today.

Intuitive software is software that does what the user expects it to do.  We have been habituated to using <Alt-Home> to go the Home-Page in Firefox and it makes eminently sense.  The feeling is that <Alt-Home> will take you 'home' wherever that might be.  In a calendar, 'home' quite obviously is 'today'.  

If <Alt-Home> happens to be reserved then that smacks of hard-coding some functionality that should have been modular.  The keyboard should pass its input to whichever module is in control and I would be surprised if that were not the case.  In other words: how can this be a hassle?

Basically, there is nothing that can be done here, as long as our host application Thunderbird occupies this shortcut.
