1&1 = UnitedInternet is a German web hoster and dedicated server provider, and the largest in the world.
They host customer domains, the domains below are the MX server domains.
Domains belonging to 1&1 hosting/servers:
kundenserver.de 1103
schlund.de 705
1and1.com 271
1and1.fr 163
1and1.co.uk 154
They may need different configs each.

I've got a .de domain with them.
IMAP: imap.1und1.de, port 993, SSL, plain auth, username %EMAILADDRESS%
SMTP: smtp.1und1.de, port 465, SSL, plain auth, username %EMAILADDRESS%
DNS MX record for my domain is mx01.kundenserver.de.

Oh, it has two MX entries: mx00.kundenserver.de and mx01.kundenserver.de.

Add kundenserver.de to 1und1.de config.
Can somebody confirm that the domains with MX servers under the other domains above (schlund.de, 1and1.fr etc.) also use imap.1und1.de?

I'm not sure about schlund.de, it just redirects to 1und1.de.
But the other domain have their own server addresses:
1and1.com: imap.1and1.com, smtp.1and1.com
http://faq.1and1.com/e_mail/general_information_on_e_mails_/9.html
1and1.co.uk: imap.1and1.co.uk, auth.smtp.1and1.co.uk
http://faq.1and1.co.uk/communication/e_mail/how_to_send_and_receive_e_mail_from_your_computer/12.html
1and1.es: imap.1and1.es, smtp.1and1.es
http://faq.1and1.es/email/informacion_email/8.html
1and1.fr: imap.1and1.fr, auth.smtp.1and1.fr
http://faq.1and1.fr/emails/configuration/2.html

They may still go to their own backend.
I need to ask somebody from 1&1.
That's why they are commented out for now.

Fix, v1
Seems okay to me. The MX records are a little odd, but I think I can live with them.
Thanks,
Blake.

Postmaster didn't answer.
Called support hotline, they confirmed that imap.1und1.de is correct for all customers and that's what support is told to tell all customers. He said there's just one mail pool backend.
So, I enabled the other domains schlund.de, 1and1.com etc. as well, given that they have a considerable amount of customers.
Commited as SVN Revision 69853.
This should boost out hit rate by > 1%.

Hello, I am the technical editor for 1&1 USA/UK. While updating our FAQs, I noticed that the ISP database information you may have confirmed is not quite correct. All of our customers must authenticate their account through their respective frontends or it will fail.
I am assuming the MX records for domains are checked when trying to determine mail settings fro your database so I have included them as well. Would it be possible to re-open the bug and make the appropriate changes?
The
For USA:
imap.1and1.com
pop.1and1.com
smtp.1and1.com
mx00.1and1.com
mx01.1and1.com
UK:
imap.1and1.co.uk
pop.1and1.co.uk
auth.smtp.1and1.co.uk
mx00.1and1.co.uk
mx01.1and1.co.uk
ES:
imap.1and1.es
pop.1and1.es
smtp.1and1.es
mx00.1and1.es
mx01.1and1.es
FR:
imap.1and1.fr
pop.1and1.fr
auth.smtp.1and1.fr
mx00.1and1.fr
mx01.1and1.fr
DE:
imap.1und1.de
pop.1und1.de
smtp.1und1.de
mx00.schlund.de
mx01.schlund.de
The server settings are the same across all countries however:
IMAP: port 993, SSL/TLS, plain auth, %EMAILADDRESS%
POP: port 995, SSL/TLS, plain auth, %EMAILADDRESS%
SMTP: port 587, STARTTLS, plain auth, %EMAILADDRESS%
If any more information is required, just ask.

That is directly contradicting your own technical support.
Can somebody please *test* it?

I spent one year as premium technical support, and one year as dedicated server support before my current position as technical editor. Aside from verifying with our mail administrators, I have tested this myself of course before making the bug just to make sure.
I can provide a USA e-mail account for proof of failure using the suggested settings in your database (imap.1und1.de, pop.1und1.de, smtp.1und1.de) if necessary. Please contact me directly via e-mail for credentials if needed. You may also contact me via phone M-F 10AM-6PM EST by getting through to our Dedicated Server Support department and asking for me personally at 1-866-99-1AND1. Be sure to choose the Dedicated Server Support option from the IVR to ensure you are routed to the correct office where I am located.

Ah, the .com domain is separate, OK.
I believe the EU servers are just one mail pool, though. Are you sure that @.fr accounts will also fail to fetch from imap.1und1.de servers?
Yes, I would like to have test account(s). You can send it to my email address. Thank you!
