Greetings. I am using Debian's packaging of mozilla. I believe it is m17. Attempting to download a JDK from java.sun.com does not work. Trying the `ftp downloads' causes mozilla to hang -- I was forced to kill the mozilla pid and restart mozilla. Trying any of the `http downloads' methods brought a dialog box to my attention, asking what I wish to do with that filetype. I select "save" because it claims to be a .sh file. It turns out to be an HTML file of some sort. To reproduce -- go to java.sun.com. Find on the left side a drop down box that will give the "j2SDK Standard Edition". Once there, select the Linux/x86 option near the top of the page, tell them you want one big tar file, agree to the license agreement, and by this time there should be a page giving several options -- ftp from sun, several ftp mirrors, and then at the bottom, http from sun. Try any. http from sun will give the file, ftp will lock. I would be more than happy to supply additional information if requested. Thanks, and keep up the good work. :)

I'm afraid you'd have to test this in a new build (or m18 at least) for this bug. Older builds often have bugs that are fixed. qawanted keyword

It does not lock for me with linux mozilla trunk 101608. It does mishandle the file though and attempts to load it into the content pane. Over to Networking

I just downloaded JDK 1.3.1 with Moz. Filed bug 95550, but didn't have any problem with this issue. FWIW, WORKSFORME on Win98 2001080603. Can somebody check this on Linux? I suspect this one can be resolved, as it hasn't been commented on for close to a year.

last tested in build 2001101408 on Win2k (SP2) This is no longer working. I had downloaded JDK 1.3.1 with Mozila just fine. However, when I attempted to download 1.3.1_01 just over the weekend (Oct. 13th-14th), it didn't work. Here are the symptoms. When I clicked on the License agreement button, all that happened was that the license agreement re-appeared. Expected: Should have been given a list of FTP sites to choose to download from. Actual: License agreement keeps re-appearing so I can't get to list of download sites. Since downloading files has worked fine for a while, I'm assuming it would work as long as I was able to actually get the list of ftp sites to choose from. Hope I didn't morph this bug too much. If so, let me know and I'll file a new bug. Jake

Build ID: 2001110503 WIN2000 I cannot download from Sun site either. If I try the FTP sites, I get "<html><body></body></html>" The HTTP site actually bombs Mozilla.

-> moving this into the untargeted bucket... scott: could you give more information on the problems you are encountering? when you say that mozilla bombs, do you mean that mozilla is crashing?

Mozilla is Crashing. It isn't even coming up with a Talkback form or anything. This is happening when I click on the HTTP download button on the Sun JDK 1.3.0_01 download site.

This is related to comment #5. I experience the same problem using Mozilla 0.9.5 (build ID: 2001101201) on Linux -- Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:0.9.5) Gecko/20011012 Go to the URL http://www.jcp.org/aboutJava/communityprocess/final/jsr053/ where you'll find download options for Servlet or JSP specifications. Click one of the Continue buttons for the PDF formats. This will take you to a license page with Accept/Decline buttons at the bottom. Click the Accept button. When I do that, I get the license page back. It should take me to the next page with a list of ftp/http sites to perform the actual download. Netscape "does the right thing".

Please raise the priority of this bug. This is not any old page that doesnt work. Not getting to Java is a show stopper for me using Mozilla. And for other probably too.

i tried this with a CVS build from yesterday (under linux) and could not reproduce the problem... i successfully downloaded j2SDK both as a RPM and as a tarball. i also tried http://www.jcp.org/aboutJava/communityprocess/final/jsr053/ without any trouble. perhaps sun "fixed" their website?!? marking WORKSFORME.
