This has occurred to me too regarding 'ASK' search engine. I remove it without a problem. Exit Firefox, Run Firefox, and it is still showing up in my search engines when I have never installed it (or added it).

Still happening to me on Windows 7 with Firefox 9.0 from the beta channel updates.
Not sure at what point, but this is now working for me. My current build ID is 20111212185108 (Firefox 9.0 beta)
No, it's still not solved (which is probably obvious from the fact that no developer has taken a look at this bug). Still having issues removing the Yahoo search engine. David e. Narvaez
I believe it is a "yahoo " thing. it takes over. And yes, the newest Firefox has the same problem, since they went to Yahoo instead of Google. I personally, remove anything that says yahoo from my PC . In addition I wish to thank the team, that let us know about the update in such a timely manner. only 3 days after the actual change was I able to find something about it, and meanwhile I had uninstalled and ripped my firefox apart 3 times.
