could we have a pref (and the UI in the pref panels) so that I could disable all tooltips? I'm sure there are people (like me) who just aren't tooltip people. "people, who need toolips, are the luckiest people in the world"

paul said that he might know of the css magic to add to your user.css file to turn tooltips off. paul?

attinasi has done this css magic for underline pref, adding him to CC.

#aTooltip {visibility:collapse} works for me (in userChrome.css).
Comment 8•24 years ago

'collapse' only really applies to table cells. If we were to use this, we should use 'hidden' not 'collapse'.
Comment 9•24 years ago
|
||
Er, I thought it was a synonym if applied to other than table elements. But, 'hidden', I suppose is better.
Comment 10•24 years ago
|
||
It is a synonym when applied to other elements, but the value 'hidden' is recommended. There is the possibility that in CSSn, 'collapse' will apply to some other display type, for example.

Yes, if there is a pref, it is easy to put in the custom style rule. Currently, the pref style sheet is built up in the PresShell (chode is only on the trunk right now though).

taking this over. how about "browser.chrome.toolbar_tips" since that is what we used in 4.x?

I prefer the pref to the style rule as not everyone is forced to use the generic tooltip stuff, and it is common in many products to have a UI toggle for tooltips.

pink, yes please use the 4.x pref. that way, if a user migrates (or has migrated) a 4.x profile to 6.0, once we fix this it will just start working. no additional migration code will need to be written. thanks for taking this, pink.

Um is there a rationale for this other than "a couple of developers don't like tooltips" ?
